Leadership Couture - In a February State of Mind

In a February State of Mind

I don’t know about you, but I’m ready to say goodbye to January! While February 1st may be a few days away, I’m already in a February state of mind. What does that mean? Well, once I finally take down my Christmas tree, it will look like this: more room for love, more room for intentionality, and more room for clarity.

This month, I’m leaning into communication and the power of using our voices. January’s feedback told me you’re looking for practical ways to communicate more effectively, whether in a boardroom, with your team, or even at home.

Did you know that your Executive Presence (how you show up as a leader) is 28% communication? I love facilitating workshops on Executive Presence (EP) because it combines my two loves - leadership and style. In case you were wondering, appearance accounts for just 5% of EP, but it's an important 5%. As Alison Loehnis wisely notes, "First impressions, though they can be overcome or built upon, are crucial." More on Loehnis below!

If I've piqued your interest on Executive Presence, take a closer look at what this workshop entails. While you're looking, check out my other offerings all tailored for you. Let's find a way to work together and spread more love, intentionality, and clarity.

Try it On

Personal Style

What if your clothes weren’t just armor but a blade—a tool for precision, strength, and impact? I love this perspective from Alison Loehnis, Ad Interim CEO and President of YOOX NET-A-PORTER, the world’s leading online luxury and fashion retailer. She explains, “For me, power dressing is how you feel in something. There are always going to be things in your closet that make you feel strong when you put it on.” In this article from Chief, Loehnis shares her insights on taking risks, Executive Presence, and embracing authenticity. Try it on, and you’ll be ready to walk into any room with confidence and command.

Take It Off

Difficult Conversations

Can we agree to stop labeling conversations as difficult? When we do this, we unintentionally set ourselves up for resistance and dread before the conversation even begins. The word difficult implies conflict, struggle, and discomfort—hardly a mindset for success. Instead, let’s reframe these moments as Intentional Conversations with STYLE. By shifting the focus to intentionality, we emphasize clarity, purpose, and collaboration, creating a space for growth and understanding rather than tension. When approached with confidence and strategy, these conversations can be transformative rather than challenging. Ready to embrace this mindset? Check out my method below for a step-by-step guide on how to handle intentional conversations with grace and impact.

cabi Spring 2025

Usually, I save my cabi Moment for the end of my newsletter, but the Spring 2025 line is just too good to wait. You know that iconic line from Dirty Dancing, "Nobody puts Baby in a corner"? Well, cabi is my baby this month, and she’s front and center!

From the bold patterns to the vibrant colors and incredible versatility, this line is a must-see. While the best way to experience it is by inviting me into your home with your closest girlfriends, I’m making it even easier for you to get a front-row view. Join me on January 30th or February 2nd from the comfort of your own home for a Front Row Virtual Shopping Experience. You won’t want to miss it!

What I'm Loving AND Amplifying...

on the page,

How lucky am I to have not one but two incredible style coaches right in my neighborhood? And how lucky are you that they’ve captured their expertise in a book? A few years ago, I invited Kristen Campbell and Kristin Argento, authors of Threads Method: Styled for Life, into my closet. They helped me edit, style, and shop my wardrobe—and it was nothing short of liberating! In their new book, they share their signature method with readers. One of my favorite takeaways is this gem: “Curating a wardrobe aligned with your lifestyle and values can empower you to step confidently into each day.” I couldn’t agree more!

on Zoom for my women in insurance sales,

Calling all women in Employee Benefits sales! Have you caught your breath yet from the fourth-quarter rush? Ready to make 2025 your best sales year ever? Give yourself grace on that first question, but if the answer to the second is yes, join us for a virtual Sales Roundtable for Women in Employee Benefits on Thursday, January 30, at 2 PM EST.

I’ll be joined by the amazing Tracey Heeter Allen of the Pivot Project, and together we’ll create a space to learn, share, and grow with the very best in the business.

and out in the world.

Later this month, I'll be spreading the Executive Presence love at the Nationwide Women in Ag Agent Symposium. Will I see you there? I’m excited to take a deep dive into EP and help the incredible women attending embrace their personal style—or as I like to call it, their Signature Style. Here’s hoping this throwback photo of my pappy and me at the PA Farm Show circa 1986 earns me some street cred (thanks Mom!).

This is my favorite workshop to facilitate - let me know if we can bring it to your organization. Let's chat!

A Quiet Moment Saturday was my 42nd birthday. My alarm went off at 5 AM, and I started my day with a few of my favorite things - a hot cup of black coffee spiked with collagen (hello, 40s!), Glennon Doyle's latest book (more on this below), and a warm seat by the fireplace (the mornings are still cold in PA!). I realize I may have lost some of you with "my alarm went off at 5 AM" on a Saturday on my birthday. Why do I wake early? Like so many of you, I'm a mom (Happy Mother's Day today and...

Cultivate the Courage to Bloom One year ago, on April 8th, I celebrated my first official day as Founder of JMW Collective. I posted my new title on LinkedIn and basked in the supportive comments. I had taken the leap and launched my own business, and it was a beautiful moment. At least, that's what everyone could see. But, if you've ever made a life-changing decision like that you know there's always more to see beneath the surface. What didn’t show was the burnout that crept in the summer...

Women's History Month Edition March is one of my favorite months – the start of spring, the excitement of March Madness (take me back to the early 00’s at Pitt #IYKYK), and the celebration of Women’s History Month (WHM)! Not to mention, my oldest turns 13 (!) later this month. Did you know President Jimmy Carter issued the first Presidential Proclamation declaring the week of March 8th, 1980, as National Women’s History Week? The week was chosen to correspond with International Women’s Day...
